Museum project in Roxas, VIVA EXCON CAPIZ 2018, the Philippines
VIVA EXCON CAPIZ 2018 will be held in 8 -11 November 2018 at Roxas City, the capital city of Capiz in the Philippines. VIVA EXCON is artist-run art exhibition + conference which was launched in 1990 by artists in the Visayas region. I participated in second VIVA EXCON in 1992 in Bacolod, and 2016 in Iloilo so that this time will be the third time participation. For VIVA EXCON CAPIZ 2018, I am going to collaborate with local artists and conduct a project with the local community in Roxas.
Background of the project
Panublion Museum is situated in the centre of Roxas, and the museum
introduces the local history of the area. If you visit the museum, you can find a small open cafe beside it. The neighbours in and around this area gather at the coffee shop as the opening in the morning and enjoy conversation with a cup of coffee till evening. They have different memories and experiences of the old Roxas.
Balay Sugilanon / Story House
I am interested in introducing old Roxas through their talk in the cafe. I talk with them and record the conversation. From the stories, I will make a temporary museum “Balay Sugilanon / Story House”.
